Bookmarks are used to save filters that you think you will use frequently. Bookmarks contain fields and the values for those fields against which you want to filter.
There are two types of bookmark:
Type 1) Applying the bookmark will remove all active filters and apply the filters in the bookmark.
Type 2) Applying the bookmark will apply the filters in the bookmark in addition to current filters applied to columns on which the bookmark does not filter. Filters applied to columns in which the bookmark DOES filter will be REPLACED by those in the bookmark.
Loading your database

Open the Vizubi database called “Vizubi AdventureWorksDW.ndb” saved at the end of the Getting Started 3: Linked Tables. Or you can download it from here.
Open Excel.
(1) Click on the Vizubi tab.
(2) Click on the Open button in the Database group of the ribbon and open the ndb file.
(3) Browse until you find “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Vizubi\SampleData\” then select “getting started.ndb”.
(4) Click on the Open button to load the file.
Open the Number of orders and sales by country and Product report

(1) Click on the upper part of the Report button in the Reports group of the ribbon. The Select report window opens.
(2) Double click on the Number of orders and sales by country report.
Modify and apply filters to your report

Apply filters to your report
1) Remove the Product group from the Row Labels pane (click on it and select Remove field).
2) Drag and drop the EnglishProductCategoryName field in the Row Label pane.
3) Use CTRL+click to select Australia and Germany in the EnglishCountryRegionName column.
4) Click on Filter by Selection. This filters your report using the values you selected (see the tutorial How to filter Data for more details.
Create a bookmark with the selected filters

Bookmarks are groups used to save filters that you want to reuse in the future.
There are two types of bookmarks.
The first kind will, when it is applied, remove any active filters and apply the filters saved in the bookmark. This type of bookmark is created by default.
The second type of bookmark will apply its filters on top of active filters but ONLY if those filters are applied to different columns than those filtered in the bookmark (for columns that are filtered in the report and the bookmark, only the bookmarks filters will be applied).
For example if you have a bookmark which filters for Germany and your report is filtered for Spain and Bananas, the result of applying the Germany bookmark will be a filter by Germany AND BANANAS.
1) Click on the bottom part of the Bookmark button in the Bookmarks group of the ribbon, then on New Bookmark.
2) Name the Bookmark “Australia and Germany”.
3) Click on OK to save the bookmark.
4) Click on the Clear button in the Selections group of the ribbon to clear the active filters.
Apply the new bookmark

1) Click on the top part of the Bookmarks button.
2) Click on Australia and Germany to apply the filters in the bookmark.
Modify the bookmark

1) Click on the bottom part of the Bookmark button.
2) Double click on Australia and Germany.
3) Change the name to Australia and Germany Apply On Top.
4) Select the Make bookmark apply on top of current filters check box. This filter will now be applied on top of any filters already applied to the report.
5) Click on OK.
6) Click on Close.
Apply other filters to your report

We will filter the report by France (in the country column and Accessories in the product category column). When we apply the “Australia or Germany Apply On Top” bookmark, the France filter is removed and the report is filtered by Australia or Germany AND Accessories.
1) Click on the Clear button in the Selections group of the ribbon to clear the active filters.
2) Use CTRL-Click to select France and Accessories.
3) Click on Filter by selection to filter by France and Accessories.
Apply the modified bookmark

1) Click on the top part of the Bookmarks button.
2) Double-click on Australia and Germany Apply On Top.
3) The report is now filtered by Australia and Germany AND Accessories. France was removed from the filter because it is in the same column as Germany and Australia.
Select a new group of filters

The Replace Bookmark function allows you to substitute the filters saved in a bookmark with the filters that are currently active. For instance if you had a filter called “Fruit” which contained apples and you wanted to add grapes to the bookmark, you would filter your report by apples and grapes and then use the Replace Bookmark function to replace the filter in the “Fruit” bookmark.
1) Click on Clear in the Selections group to clear all active filters.
2) Use CTRL-click to select Australia, Canada, UK.
3) Click on the Filter By Selection button to filter the report.
Save the new bookmark

1) Click on the bottom part of the Bookmarks button and click on New Bookmark.
2) Call the bookmark English Speaking Countries.
3) Click on OK to save it.
4) Click on the Clear button to remove all active filters.
Replace the bookmark

You now realize that you left the US out.
1) Repeat the selection of Australia, Canada, UK and USA using CTRL-Click.
2) Click on Filter By Selection to filter the report.
3) Click on the bottom half of the Bookmarks button and then on Replace Bookmark
4) Select English Speaking Countries from the list
5) Click on Confirm.
View the result

1) Click on Clear to clear the active filters
2) Click on the bottom half of the Bookmarks button.
3) Click on the English Speaking Countries bookmark.
The report is now filtered by Australia, Canada, UK and USA.
Delete the bookmark

1) Click on the bottom part of the Bookmark button.
2) Click on Delete Bookmark to delete the active bookmark.
