After about a month of hard work, Vizubi version 1.9 Beta is ready for prime time.
Here’s a list of new features and bug fixes for this version:
- a more functional setup process which automatically removes old versions – no need to uninstall manually. With the added bonus that our incredibly attractive frog logo shows up where you’d least expect it.
- .xlsx and other Excel 2007 formats are now fully compatible and data from this type of file can be imported using the wizard as well as through the creation of linked tables, subject to RAM limitations.
- the creation of pivot tables has also been activated. Just drag and drop a field in a report into the column label and row label panes and voilà: you’re pivoting
- you can now create calculated columns using the values from one or more fields in a table. There are a whole bunch of operators (you can download a list which explains how to use them here) and more on the way. Calculated columns are recalculated every time you reload data. The formulas in calculated columns can only take values from a single row of data, but one calculated column can be used as input to create another calculated column.
- in order to avoid issues with the maximum number of rows you can see in Excel, we put in a parameter that limits the total number of rows in a report. The default is set to 65535, but you can change this (at your own risk) by clicking on the options button in the Tools group of the Vizubi ribbon. If you go over the row limit, you’ll see a warning message.
- column types are maintained in Excel when columns are added to reports (a column set to number type will also be number type in Excel)
- column formats are maintained in Excel when columns are added to reports (number type column formatted without decimals will be shown in Excel without decimals)
- ordering data in columns has been changed so that you can set the order data is seen in the editor separately from the order data is seen in reports.
- when you add fields to reports, the report will initially be ordered by the sort order of the first field added.
- groups in reports cycle by the order in which the fields in the group appear in the slicer and these can be modified by modifying the slicer. This improves drill-down.
- it is now possible to rename a worksheet even if there are already reports on the sheet.
- We’ve removed a whole bunch of bugs which our wonderful group of beta testers found – a big thanks to all those who are helping us in this stage.
